How to edit images in WordPress

One of the key features of WordPress is the easy process for using and editing images to get the most out of your website or blog. Cropping an image

This is one of the most important editing options so that you can get rid of parts of an image or photo that you don’t want to display on your website. You can remove all of the unwanted areas of the picture with one easy click and drag of a mouse, so that only the area of the picture that is relevant is used.

The cropping tools is really easy to use, you simply need to click and drag with your mouse to select the area of the image that you want to keep. Once you’ve got the section selected that you want to use, click on the Crop button and your new image will be displayed. If you’re happy with it, click Save or if you want another go to select the area, you can click cancel.

Resizing/Scaling an image

Another key tool in WordPress is the resizing tool. This allows you to change the dimensions for your image so that it looks right in your website or blog. There will often be a requirement to use specific image dimensions to ensure your image looks right depending on what it is being used for. For example, for banners will need to be the right dimension for the site.

WordPress is great because when you upload an image, it automatically creates three different thumbnail sizes that you may want to use. You can also change the settings to specify the image sizes that you most frequently use.

Rotating an image

Ever uploaded images to your PC or laptop and realised all your pictures are turned onto their side? The rotating tool in WordPress will allow you to easily correct this, so people won’t need to tilt their heads when reading your blog or visiting your website!

Under the Edit Image area simply click on the Rotate button and you can select which way you want to rotate the image. It will rotate your image in 90 degree integers.

Flipping an image

Not only can you rotate to your heart’s content, there is also an option to flip your image from one plane to another.

Undo and Redo

Anyone that is familiar with common software features will know the importance of the undo and redo tools. How many times that undo button has saved people from a painful experience we will never know but you’ll know from your own experience that if you accidentally delete a load of work that you’ve spent days creating, the Undo button is your saviour. Similar to the undo and redo options in Microsoft packages, this button does exactly what it says on the tin and will no doubt be well used in your future publishing lifetime.
